Forensic marketing infrastructure diagnostics built on six years of regulated financial services experience — where misconfigured tracking means a regulatory violation and "close enough" isn't an option.
The forensic approach
Five years at IG Australia — managing programmatic display across APAC, architecting GTM infrastructure for DailyFX, and liaising on a company-wide GDPR rollout across APAC — is the foundation Yellowhead's methodology is built on. Operating under ASIC regulatory constraints daily, where tracking gaps were business problems and a misconfigured tag meant a regulatory violation.
The forensic approach isn't borrowed from a consulting textbook. It's the product of operating in environments where rigour wasn't optional.
That instinct didn't start in financial services. MediaCom in Melbourne — agency-side campaign planning and media buying, where IG Australia was a client before recruiting him to the in-house team. Before that: litigation support at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers (document discovery, evidence databases, learning that rigorous documentation before action is how you avoid catastrophic mistakes) and electrical contracting (you don't run cable until the drawings are approved and the spec is signed off). Spec first, build second.
The builder mentality
While managing programmatic campaigns professionally, Chris was also building his own digital products on the side. The first major one was a sharing economy platform — anticipated the gig economy wave, wireframed and documented thoroughly, and backed by a five-figure development spend. It never launched. What it taught was permanent: junior developers, however credentialed and capable technically, rarely have the experience or product vision to fill the gap between what's documented and what's intended. Without someone who can translate vision into direction at every stage, you end up with a codebase that faithfully builds the wrong thing.
That experience — losing real money to the exact failure mode Yellowhead now helps clients avoid — is what makes the Architect stream different. Spec first, build second isn't borrowed from a methodology. It came from a hard lesson.
That practitioner perspective — builder as well as analyst — is woven into how Yellowhead operates. We don't audit from the outside looking in. We audit the way someone who has built the same systems would: knowing where the shortcuts get taken, where the configurations drift, and where the documentation quietly disappears.
The operator perspective
Building your own ventures means nobody hands you the business case. Chris built his own financial models, market sizing analyses, growth projections, and ROI frameworks from scratch — not as a theoretical exercise, but because he needed to know whether the thing he was building was worth building. That work lives in spreadsheets that had to answer real questions: how large is this market, what does the unit economics look like at scale, where does the model break?
That operator lens — thinking about marketing infrastructure not just as a technical system but as a business system — is what separates a diagnostic from a checklist. When Yellowhead finds a tracking gap, the analysis doesn't stop at "this tag is broken." It continues to: what is this costing you, what decisions are being made on corrupted data, and what does fixing it change about your model.
